![]() ![]() ![]() I am also collaborating with researchers from UC Santa Cruz and the Max Planck Institute in Jena on genome wide sequencing of ancient DNA from Repton samples. Working closely with the director of the original excavations in Repton, Prof Martin Biddle, I carried out an extensive programme of isotopic analyses of human remains from the site, and have reassessed the original radiocarbon dating evidence. My PhD project (2012 – 2017) revisited the archaeological evidence from Repton in Derbyshire, combining new bioarchaeological techniques with further excavations to reassess the extent and nature of the presence of the 9th century Viking Great Army, and subsequent Scandinavian settlers. My forthcoming book, River Kings, will be out in 2021 with HarperCollins. I am also a freelance author and historical consultant for TV and media. I currently work as an adviser for the development of the new Museum of the Viking Age in Oslo, providing research and written texts as background for creating the museum's new exhibits and online content. ![]()
